New Lynn was home to Crown Lynn, the biggest pottery in the southern hemisphere back in 1970. The cup sculpture is a marker or suggestive remnant to Crown Lynn, the cups and jug is a  scaled version of a minute selection of their massive product range.
If you want to check out the sculpture it is in the Olympic Park in New Lynn, and whilst you are there pop around the corner and visit our showroom at 104a Lansford Crescent (entrance from 1 Barrhead Place) Avondale.
In New Lynn you will find Te Toi Uku a small museum with mostly a Crown Lynn collection, but also includes heavy clay items and machinery used in the production of ceramics in the West. https://tetoiuku.org.nz/
